CALL TO ACTION!
From MMHCA Executive Director, James Blundo:
MMHCA is requesting to include HR 945, which is the companion bill to S 286,
in the proposed Covid 19 legislation being considered. The bill includes a provision for including LPCs as Medicare providers.
Please encourage your peers to identify their US House Representative and Senators and ask them to support the inclusion of HR 945 in the House, or S 286 in the Senate, in the upcoming Federal Stimulus Bill.
We have included a sample letter if you would like help in reaching out to your representatives. You can also use this information to make a phone call to your Representative or Senators.Find your representatives using the links below.
Michigan Counselors Urgent Action Needed
HR 945 / S286
Dear Representative (or Senator) ______________,
Thank you for all the work you are doing to keep us physically and financially healthy during this pandemic. I am writing to ask your support for including HR 945 (S 286 if writing your Senators) in the next COVID 19 legislation. HR 945 (S 286 if writing your Senators) would provide for the inclusion of Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) as providers in Medicare. This would ensure that seniors across the country, our most vulnerable population, have access to critical mental health services during this pandemic.
In Michigan, the Michigan Mental Health Counselors Association (MMHCA) is working with Governor Whitmer’s office to provide emotional support services to any Michigan citizen who needs them. However, without Medicare inclusion, we cannot offer these services to our seniors. In many Michigan counties, most of the available mental health providers are LPCs. Now is the time to correct this problem. Thank you for your support!
